Calcium with vitamin D3 and other minerals are released into the water, to help prevent shell softening, which is caused by the water becoming too acidic, which in turn, burns the reptile shell and skin.

The Dupla filter casing FG 500 is filled with the high performance ion exchanger Duresin RI and is placed directly downstream of the reverse osmosis system.
Especially high silicic acid parts (silicates) in the water often pose to be a problem in fish keeping in spite of the usage of reverse osmosis water. With a silicic acid concentration of 5mg in tap water and a retention rate of 95% of a reverse osmosis system there is still a rest silicic acid concentration of 0.25mg in the permeate (pure water of the osmosis water). This concentration may already lead to a diatom problem especially in marine fish keeping.
The high performance ion exchanger Duresin RI also binds remaining quantities of nitrate, polutants and salts that are contained in the permeate of the osmosis system next to silicates.
The colour indicator in the ion exchanger shows when the filter material is used up and needs to be replaced. The colour will change from green to dark blue, which indicates that the filter material is used up and needs to be replaced.
