Purigen: The Ultimate Organic Filtration Resin
Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent, unparalleled in its ability to purify aquarium water.
Unlike conventional filtration media, Purigen is not a blend of ion exchangers or adsorbents. Instead, it's a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer designed for superior organic waste removal.
Key Features & Benefits:
- Unmatched Organic Removal: Purigen boasts over 500% greater capacity than competing products, effectively eliminating soluble and insoluble impurities.
- Ammonia, Nitrite, & Nitrate Control: By targeting nitrogenous organic waste, Purigen® proactively minimizes the formation of harmful ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.
- Enhanced Water Clarity: Achieve crystal-clear water with Purigen's exceptional polishing capabilities.
- Minimal Trace Element Impact: Purigen selectively removes organics, leaving essential trace elements largely unaffected.
- Redox Enhancement: Significantly elevates redox potential, promoting a healthy aquatic environment.
- Regenerable & Cost-Effective: Purigen changes colour as it exhausts, signaling the need for regeneration using a simple bleach solution.
- Versatile Application: Suitable for both marine and freshwater aquariums.
- High Capacity: Vast surface area due to its spherical and macroreticular structure, ensuring long-lasting performance.
How Purigen Works:
Purigen is an organic scavenging resin, specifically engineered to target nitrogenous waste from fish, corals, and plants. Unlike ion-exchange resins that primarily remove metals and ionic compounds, Purigen® focuses on organic molecules. Its unique macro-porous structure provides an exceptionally large surface area for efficient adsorption.
Regeneration Process:
- Bleach Soak: Soak exhausted Purigen in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container, ensuring proper ventilation. (Use regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach, unscented and dye-free.)
- Dechlorination: Rinse thoroughly, then soak for 8 hours in a solution containing 4 tablespoons of Prime (or equivalent dechlorinator) per cup of water.
- Freshwater Buffering (Freshwater Use): For freshwater aquariums, soak for 4 hours in a solution of 2 tablespoons of buffer (Discus Buffer, Neutral Regulator) per cup of water.
- Final Rinse: Rinse thoroughly before reuse.
- Caution: Avoid using if bleach/chlorine odor persists. Test for residual chlorine before use. Slime coat products may hinder regeneration.
Usage Instructions:
- Rinse Purigen before use.
- Use in a fine mesh (180 micron or less) filter bag, such as Seachem's The Bag.
- Position Purigen to maximize water flow.
- Suitable for canister filters, media chambers, box filters, and trickle filters.
- 250 mL treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months.
- Replace or regenerate when beads turn dark brown or black.
