HANNA Marine Ammonia Checker® HC - HI784 (0.00 to 2.50 ppm (mg/L) NH3)
The HI784 is designed to accurately and quickly determine the ammonia level in marine (saltwater) samples. The digital readout makes measurements effortless.
It is specifically designed for the measurement of ammonia in the range of 0.00 to 2.50 ppm (mg/L) NH3.
Our Marine Ammonia Checker HC HI784 provides an uncomplicated, highly accurate, and budget-friendly way to measure ammonia (NH3/NH4+) in saltwater/marine environments.
Ammonia is naturally found as part of the nitrogen cycle of a tank as aquarium organisms produce it as waste. In a balanced tank, the majority of ammonia is consumed by bacteria and the nitrogen cycle continues. When out of balance, ammonia toxicity can wreak havoc on tank inhabitants. It is important to monitor ammonia levels to ensure they remain steady and low.
The ammonia checker is designed as an exceptionally accurate alternative to chemical test kits, our Marine Ammonia Checker HI784 provides quick, accurate results in a few easy steps.
Features at-a-glance
- Simple and accurate digital test for small, trace amounts of ammonia
- Easier to use and more accurate than chemical test kits

- Small size, big convenience
- Ideal for: Saltwater Aquariums, Marine, and Aquaculture Applications
Features:
- Simple, accurate, and cost-effective
- Measures ammonia in the range of 0.00 to 2.50 ppm (mg/L)
- Based on the Beer-Lambert principle
- Easy to use and requires no calibration
- Built-in timer so you don't miss a step
- Portable and battery-powered
How to Use:
- Press button on Checker to display C.1
- Fill a clean vial with 10 mL of sample water.
- Add 18 drops of HI784A-0 reagent A to the vial.
- Add HI784B-0 sachet reagent B to the vial.
- Swirl the vial gently to mix reagents (don't shake).
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Close the vial and place it in the Checker HC. Press button to display C.2.
- Remove vial and add 12 drops of HI784C-0 reagent C.
- Swirl vial 5 times (don't shake) to mix reagents.
- Place vial into the Checker and hold button down. Timer will start for 15 minutes. The ammonia concentration in ppm (mg/L) will be displayed on the screen.
- Ensure the sample does not contain any debris.
- Hold dropper bottles completely vertically and squeeze slowly to ensure correct drop size.
- Whenever the vial is placed into the checker, it must be dry outside and free of fingerprints, oil and dirt.
- Wipe the vial thoroughly with a microfiber cleaning cloth or a lint-free cloth prior to insertion.
- Shaking the vial can generate bubbles, causing higher readings. To obtain accurate measurements, remove such bubbles by swirling or by gently tapping the vial.
- Do not let the reacted sample stand too long after reagent has been added, as accuracy will be affected.
- Discard the sample immediately after the reading has been taken or the glass might become permanently stained.
- Prepare sample vial immediately after collecting sample from tank. Ammonia is volatile and will dissipate if stored in a bottle before analysis, causing low measurements.
- If the prepared sample vial becomes cloudy the measurement will not be accurate. Prepare a new sample by adding an extra 1-2 drops of HI784A-0 Reagent A.
