Seachem Acid Buffer

Seachem Acid Buffer is a non-phosphate buffer designed to effectively lower pH and work in conjunction with Seachem Alkaline Buffer. This product is specifically formulated for planted aquariums and environments with very hard water, mitigating the potential for algae blooms or cloudiness often associated with phosphate-based buffers. By lowering pH, Acid Buffer also converts carbonate alkalinity (KH) into available CO2, promoting optimal plant growth.

Key Features:

  • Non-Phosphate Formula: Prevents algae and cloudiness in planted aquariums and hard water environments.
  • pH Reduction: Lowers pH and buffers between 6.0 and 8.0 when used with Alkaline Buffer.
  • KH Conversion: Converts carbonate alkalinity (KH) to available CO2.
  • Precise Dosing: Allows for gradual and controlled pH adjustments.
  • Compatibility: Designed for use with Seachem Alkaline Buffer for targeted pH control.

Directions for Use:

  • pH Reduction: To lower pH, add 1/4 teaspoon (2g) per 80 L (20 US gallons) of water daily until the desired pH is achieved. This dosage reduces alkalinity by approximately 0.2 meq/L (0.6 dKH).
  • Hard Water Adjustment: Larger doses may be required for very hard (KH) or alkaline water conditions.
  • Precise Measurement: For accurate dosing, utilize the Seachem Digital Spoon Scale.
  • Gradual Adjustment: For gradual pH adjustments or in soft, poorly buffered water, use Acid Buffer in conjunction with Alkaline Buffer.
  • Targeted pH: Refer to the suggested ratio chart when using Alkaline Buffer and Acid Buffer together to achieve a specific pH.
  • Ratio Calculation:
    • Determine the required amount of Alkaline Buffer based on the desired alkalinity (KH).
    • Divide the Alkaline Buffer amount by the corresponding ratio from the middle column of the ratio chart to determine the necessary amount of Acid Buffer.
