Seachem Matrix is a highly porous, inorganic biomedia designed for superior biological filtration in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. This unique product, composed of approximately 10mm diameter porous solids, offers exceptional surface area for the colonization of beneficial bacteria. Unlike traditional plastic bio-materials that provide only external surface area, Seachem Matrix features both external and internal macroporous surfaces. This structure, boasting over 700 m²/L, equivalent to 170 liters of plastic bio-balls, optimizes the growth of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, enabling simultaneous removal of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate within the same filter.
