Seachem PhosGuard - Phosphate & Silicate Removal for Aquariums
Seachem PhosGuard is a high-capacity media designed for the rapid and efficient removal of phosphate and silicate from both marine and freshwater aquariums. Its unique, highly porous, bead-shaped structure optimizes water flow, maximizing efficiency and capacity. While effective in both environments, PhosGuard performs optimally in saltwater systems, where phosphate and silicate management is critical. Note: It is not recommended for phosphate-buffered freshwater aquariums, as it will remove the buffering agents.
Key Features:
- Rapid Phosphate Removal: Effectively lowers phosphate levels, promoting a healthy aquatic environment.
- Silicate Reduction: Controls silicate concentrations, preventing diatom blooms and maintaining water clarity.
- High Porosity: Bead-shaped structure ensures optimal water flow and efficient removal.
- Safe and Inert: Does not leach phosphate or silicate back into the water, ensuring long-term stability.
- Reusable: Can be dried and reused until exhausted, providing cost-effective filtration.
- Versatile Application: Suitable for canister filters, media chambers, box filters, and trickle filters.
Directions for Use:
- Pre-wetting: Due to potential heat generation upon initial contact with water, pre-wet PhosGuard by adding it to a double volume of freshwater and rinse thoroughly.
- Placement: Rinse PhosGuard before use and place it in a high-flow area of your filtration system, ensuring optimal water circulation without tumbling. Using a filter bag is recommended.
- Dosage: Use 85 mL (1/3 cup) of PhosGuard for every 200 L (50 US gallons) of saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) of freshwater.
- Monitoring: Leave the product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate and/or silicate levels.
- Replacement/Maintenance: If concentrations have not decreased to approximately 0.02 mg/L, replace PhosGuard. Otherwise, leave it in place until levels begin to rise again. Continuous use of smaller quantities is preferable to intermittent use of larger quantities.
- Reusability: PhosGuard can be removed, dried, and reused until exhausted.
- Caution: Over-treating is not recommended.
